How the pumping interval is calculated
The interval starts from tank size per person, based on standard sludge-accumulation estimates, then adjusts for anything that loads the tank harder or lighter. A tank is due for pumping when solids reach about 30% of its volume.
Worked example — a 1,000-gallon tank, 4 people, last pumped 3 years ago
Baseline: 0.0132 × (1,000 ÷ 4) − 0.7 = 2.6 years (no adjustments)
Build-up rate: 30% ÷ 2.6 = 11.5% per year
Solids today: 3 × 11.5% = 35% — past the 30% pump point
