Angle Cut Calculator

Find the miter saw setting for an angled cut. Pick a corner (two pieces), a closed frame (equal pieces) or a single cut, enter the corner angle, number of sides or saw angle, and your board width — and get the saw setting per piece, the cut angle from the edge, the long-point to short-point offset and the length of the cut face, plus by-corner and by-sides tables, a chart, and a downloadable PDF.

US units (inches, degrees). Saw miter setting = (180 − corner) ÷ 2; a frame of N sides has corner = 180 × (N−2) ÷ N and saw = 180 ÷ N. Long-point to short-point offset = width × tan(miter); cut face length = width ÷ cos(miter). Real walls and frames are often out of square, so measure the actual corner with an angle finder and make a test cut on scrap before cutting finished stock. Mirror the two ends of each piece so the joint closes. A layout aid only — follow your tool's instructions and standard shop safety.
