How the hardwood estimate is calculated
It all starts from your floor area and waste allowance. From there the wood is counted in cartons, and the install materials branch by method — rosin paper and cleats for nail-down, adhesive for glue-down, or foam underlayment for a float. Here is the exact math behind each output.
Worked example — a 15 ft × 20 ft living room in solid 3¼″ plank, nail-down
Net area: 15 × 20 = 300 sq ft
Buy area (+10%): 300 × 1.10 = 330 sq ft
Cartons: 330 ÷ 20 = 16.5 → 17 boxes
