Asphalt Calculator

Work out how many tons of hot-mix asphalt you need and what it will cost. Enter the length, width and number of areas, set the compacted thickness (presets for 2″, 3″ and 4″), and add a waste allowance, the mix density and your price per ton plus an optional delivery fee. You'll get the volume, cubic yards, tonnage, cost per square foot and total, plus a full breakdown, by-thickness and by-mix comparison tables, a chart, and a downloadable PDF report.

Estimate only. Volume = area × thickness (in cubic feet); weight = volume × (1 + waste) × density ÷ 2000 tons. Hot-mix asphalt is about 145 lb/cu ft (≈ 109 lb per square yard per inch), but density varies with the mix and compaction, so confirm with your supplier — who sells by the ton. Asphalt needs a sound compacted base and is laid hot by a paving crew; thickness, base and drainage should suit your soil and traffic. Follow local guidance and order a little extra.

Asphalt is sold by the ton. Tonnage depends on the mix density and compaction, so confirm the price, mix and thickness with your paver before ordering.
