Stone Calculator

Work out how much landscaping or crushed stone you need and what it will cost. Choose a rectangular or circular area, enter the size and the stone depth (presets for 2″, 3″ and 4″), then set the stone density and add a waste allowance, price per ton and optional delivery fee. You'll get the cubic yards, tons, bags and total cost, plus a full breakdown, by-depth and by-stone-type comparison tables, a chart, and a downloadable PDF report.

Estimate only. Volume = area × depth ÷ 27 cubic yards (circle area = π × (diameter ÷ 2)²); weight = cubic yards × density; bags = volume ÷ 0.5 cu ft. Stone density varies widely with type and moisture (crushed stone and river rock ≈ 1.4, pea gravel ≈ 1.35, lava rock ≈ 0.55 tons per cu yd), so confirm with your supplier — who sells bulk by the ton and small amounts by the bag. For a weed-free bed, lay landscape fabric and edging first, and order a little extra.

Volume = area × depth, in cubic yards. Weight = cubic yards × density; bags assume 0.5 cu ft per bag.

Stone is usually sold by the ton for bulk and by the bag for small jobs. Densities vary with stone type and moisture, so confirm the price and weight with your supplier.
