Spindle Speed Calculator

Dial in your speeds and feeds. Pick the workpiece material, tool material and operation, then enter the tool diameter, flutes and chip load — get the spindle speed (RPM), the feed rate (IPM), the feed per revolution and the cutting speed, plus by-diameter and by-material comparison tables and a downloadable PDF.

US units (inches, SFM, RPM). Spindle speed RPM = (SFM × 12) ÷ (π × diameter) = 3.82 × SFM ÷ diameter. Feed rate (IPM) = RPM × flutes × chip load; feed per rev (IPR) = flutes × chip load. The cutting-speed (SFM) and chip-load values are typical starting points and vary with the exact alloy, coating, depth of cut, rigidity, coolant and machine power. A planning aid only — start conservative, adjust by sound, chip color and finish, and confirm against the tool manufacturer's data and your machine's limits.
