Stone Weight Calculator

Estimate the weight of a piece of stone from its size and type. Pick a slab/block, cylinder, or boulder, enter the dimensions × quantity, choose the stone (granite, marble, limestone, sandstone, slate, quartzite, basalt, travertine, or a custom density), and get total weight in pounds, short tons and kilograms, weight per piece, volume, cost, a weight-by-stone comparison and a downloadable PDF.

US units (inches, feet, yards, pounds, short tons). Weight = volume × stone density. Typical solid-stone densities: granite/marble/quartzite ≈ 165–170 lb/ft³, slate ≈ 174, basalt ≈ 185, limestone ≈ 160, sandstone ≈ 145, travertine ≈ 150. Natural stone varies with grade and porosity, and a boulder is only roughly a sphere. Estimate only; confirm before lifting, rigging, or shipping.

Slab/block = L × W × thickness; cylinder = π ÷ 4 × dia² × H; boulder = π ÷ 6 × dia³. A real boulder is irregular — the sphere is an approximation.

lb/ft³
Loads from the stone above; edit for a custom value. Natural stone varies with grade and porosity.
3 Cost (optional)
$
Cost uses the total estimated weight.
